Home Heating Oil Prices

We do not track individual Home Heating Oil prices in New Hampshire because it is a very complex issue.  We will show you what is involved in pricing and suggest that you contact your local New Hampshire home heating oil dealer to get individual prices.

National and International

  • Pricing of oil this year has risen to $107.00 per barrel.
  • It is controlled by the traders on the commodities market and sometimes changes as much as ten times a day.
  • Efforts by the industry have been made before Congress to close the Enron Loophole which would control the over the counter commodities overseas.  To date, this has not happened.
  • Prices in foreign countries have been $6.00 to $7.00 a gallon for years.  In the US, we have literally had bargain prices for years.  We are now catching up; however we still lag behind overseas prices.

Local

New Hampshire Dealers prices vary all over the lot due to:

  • size of company
  • number of employees
  • service department
  • number of trucks (delivery & service)
  • overhead costs
  • discount dealers vs. full service companies
  • buying power- gallonage
  • bulk plant facilities
  • multiple products

You see on the National News how the multinational energy companies make millions.  They also have to invest millions in exploration, drilling, refining and refining upgrades required by Congress to meet new environmental demands laid down by Congress to produce low sulphur oil in diesel, heating oil and gasoline refinements.
Your local dealer suffers when prices skyrocket, as this shrinks his margin.  He could not even pass on ten price changes a day to you.

The dealer also has to pay higher prices to the wholesaler which increases his demand for cash and thereby needs your help in paying bills as prompt as you can to keep oil flowing.  Your local New Hampshire dealer offers many options to minimize your costs.

  • Fixed price contracts
  • Cap price programs
  • Insurance against price reduction
  • Budget plans
  • Prepayment options
